UHHS Bedford Medical Center Senior Network Presents Care for the Caregiver

Bedford, OH - Beginning Saturday, August 3 and concluding Saturday, October 12, UHHS Bedford Medical Center Senior Network will be sponsoring a ten-week, Saturday series of educational and support sessions for caregivers. Individuals who provide care to a loved one or expect to provide care one day soon will find these sessions beneficial. The series will run every Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. (excluding August 31). The sessions will take place at UHHS Bedford Medical Center, 44 Blaine Avenue in Bedford.

Representatives from organizations like the Alzheimer's Association, Case Western Reserve University, Fairhill Center, Western Reserve Area on Aging, University Hospitals of Cleveland and Budish and Solomon Law office will provide valuable information for the caregiver. In addition, physicians, nursing home representatives, hospice and home health care representatives, and fire and emergency personnel will be presenting on topics such as Balancing Caregiving, Safety and Environmental Issues, Personal Care and Hygiene, Loss of Independence, Emotional and Intellectual Well Being, Creating a Community Support Network, Medical Aspects, Legal and Financial Issues, End of Caregiving and Taking Care of the Caregiver.

These sessions are free to the public. However, registration is required and there is limited seating. A community resource guide will be available to all attendees and Senior Network members will be available along with the presenters to answer questions and offer resources at each session. Developed in 1997, the UHHS Bedford Medical Center Senior

Network was developed to unite agencies serving seniors to allow for the sharing of services and resources and providing a forum for collaboration on behalf of senior services. The network has fostered an innovative model for the area in which agencies and staff who support senior programs need not work in isolation, independent from each other. UHHS Bedford Medical Center is the organizational sponsor and advocate for the development of the Senior Network and provides hospital-related programs and services to the network, as well as financial support.
