Following a
February Mayors' Initiative meeting with UHHS Bedford Medical
Center and several surrounding communities, a group of local
women came together to help contribute to the initiative of health,
wellness, and safety. The ladies came together to foster education,
fellowship, mental awareness, and philanthropy; a quilting group
was formed. "We wanted to do something different, and we
wanted to have fun doing it," stated Christine Pocek, one
of the ladies who helped form the group.
After several months of meeting every two weeks, a beautiful
crib sized quilt was created with some good advice from an expert
quilter. The quilt was then carried around at the last Party
In The Park in Bedford and raffled off. The proceeds of the raffle
were then donated to the Emergency Services Department of UHHS
Bedford Medical Center.
